Over 2,029 U.S. grocery shoppers were surveyed on January 25-26 via the Field Agent mobile app. Below we offer a few insights into their checkout habits and preferences.
- 37% of those surveyed primarily shop for groceries at Walmart, followed by Kroger at 14% and Aldi at 7%.
- When asked if their primary grocery store offers self-checkout, 74% said yes.
- Of those who shop where self-checkout is available, 85% ring up their own groceries at least some of the time, compared to 15% who rarely or never do.
- When asked how they’d react should their primary grocery store switch to only self-checkout, 64% said they’d continue to shop at that location, compared to 11% who would change their primary grocery location.
- Only 7% of Walmart shoppers would switch locations, while 17% of Kroger shoppers would do so.
- Whole Foods shoppers were most likely to remain loyal to their primary location at 81%.
